These are a few gallant volunteers that are no longer able to serve.
Here are their stories.

Stretch ( 1976-2003 )
Stretch is a 24 year old bay-brown Thoroughbred. He was the first horse donated to our program. He was rescued by a man named Tim , from a field in Oakdale where he was not being cared for. Tim took Stretch home and started to feed him well and had a vet come to look at him.
Stretch started out as a race horse then later became a San Francisco police horse. He is well mannered and gentle and big. Stretch is 16 1/2 hands tall but only weighs about 1200 lbs. He should weigh more like 1500 lbs. But because he was neglected for some time after leaving the police force, he will probably never get back up to normal weight. He has bad knees too, but a heart of gold.

Cayenne ( Retired )
Cayenne was the second horse to join us. He is a miniature horse and is only 38 inches tall at the shoulder. He is a palomino with  a beautiful mane and tail and sometimes thinks he is a big dog. Cayenne is about 16 years old and used to work on a breeding ranch and later became a family pet in charge of keeping down the weeds in the yard. No one over 50 pounds can ride Cayenne but it is fun to brush him. He is in our program for  our wheelchair and shorter students. Cayenne gives them the opportunity to look a horse in the eye instead of the knee.

Corky ( 1983-2003 )
Corky is very mild mannered, sometimes a bit too mild. He is easy to ride, sometimes the challenge is to keep him moving, he tends to doze off. He will eat anything he can find, so if you bring a snack for yourself, bring one for him too, or he will eat yours. His snacks have to be small bites. He has worn down all his front teeth by chewing on the bars in his stall, and anywhere else he can find them. So he can't bit you, but he could gum you real good..
